Summer 2008

Posted 08/06/08 by Donna DeYoung

Early summer 2008 saw a slight slump in horse sales and prices due to the gasoline prices and weather patterns in the U.S.  A glut of American-bred, non-Spanish-registered horses appeared on the market at all-time low prices. However, prices of Pura Raza Espanola seemed to be holding. Some horses are offered at excellent values, making it a good time to invest in PREs.  In August, sales seem to be picking up perhaps due to the falling gasoline prices.  Horses are selling, although not at high prices.  Buyers range from total newcomers to those experienced but "looking".  Competition continues to grow among sellers with the growth of Youtube and the popularity of horse selling sites such as Dreamhorse.

I received my horse ownership cards from Spain in the email in July 2008.  This service request was begun with the Foundation PREA, then switched over to ANCCE in the spring.  As a result of following up with ANCCE and attending inscription/revision with Alex Zilo's group (USPREA), I seem to have actually received paperwork from Spain! Next, hopefully, we will have cartas in hand for the horses that were presented at the revision process.  So far, no one in Texas has received them as of this date.
